VERY Happening: December Edition

‘Tis the season to be VERY jolly! Celebrate the holiday season around Philadelphia with great events like the Rittenhouse Tree Lighting, ice skating at Dilworth Park or Winterfest at Penn’s Landing. The One Liberty Observation Deck is open and a great spot for a selfie. Ring in 2016 with the city’s fireworks!

Rittenhouse Tree Lighting
When: December 3, 2015
Time: 5:00 PM
Where: Rittenhouse Square

Every year, locals and visitors pack the square for the ceremonial lighting of the Rittenhouse Square Christmas tree, which is typically more than 30 feet tall. For more information, click here .

Winterfest Tree Lighting
When: December 4, 2015
Time: 6:00 – 9:00 PM
Where: Penn’s Landing

Winterfest on the Delaware River Waterfront goes all out in lighting its tree with performances from the Philadelphia Youth Ballet and Philadelphia Symmetry Ice Skaters, as well as an appearance from Santa Claus. For more information, click here.

Deck The Alley 2015
When: December 5, 2016
Time: 3:00-7:00 PM
Where: Elfreth’s Alley

If you’ve ever longed to step inside the charming historic homes in Philadelphia, this event is for you. The residents of Old City’s historic Elfreth’s Alley, America’s oldest continuously occupied residential street, will once again open their doors for the annual Deck the Alley open house. For more information, click here.

Sittin’ In
When: December 9, 2015
Time: 8:00 PM
Where: The Kimmel Center

It’s a jam session, it’s a dance party, it’s a live show – and it always features the hottest talent on the scene! Sittin’ In is the free, monthly jam session at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical
When: December 17 – 20, 2015
Where: Merriam Theater

Join us in celebrating Rudolph’s 50 years on television and come see all of your favorite characters as they come to life in the all new Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical. Vatican Splendors
When: September 19, 2015 – February 15, 2016
Where: Franklin Institute

Franklin Square Holiday Festival
When: November 12 – December 31, 2015
Where: Franklin Square

Experience the magic of the holidays and celebrate traditions new and old at the Franklin Square Holiday Festival. Dazzle in the more than 50,000 lights as they shimmer, dance, and illuminate the Square in alternating shows every 30 minutes (4:30 – 8 pm) during the Electrical Spectacle Holiday Light Show; warm up with comfort food, local beers, and hot beverages at Ben’s Bites & Brews. For more information, click here.

Where: Dilworth Park

For the first time this holiday season, Dilworth Park will host a market showcasing local artists, crafters, confectionaries and designers. Winterfest
